Honorary Brit! Rihanna breaks out red, white and blue Union Flag crop top - and some breathtakingly short hotpants - at V Festival

By JODY THOMPSON

Rated R: Few singers could get away with Rihanna's raunchy outfit

After a few days of wearing rather more clothes than is customary for her as she got to grips with a less-than-sizzling British summer, it was business as usual for Rihanna last night at the V Festival.

The Loud star took to the stage at the Staffordshire leg of the two-day bash in some eye-wateringly short studded denim hotpants - and a tiny cropped Union Flag style top embellished with safety pins.

The 23-year-old singer finished her look with some raunchy fishnet stockings and a studded black leather jacket.

But despite temperatures being considerably lower than in her native Barbados, or even her adopted home of Los Angeles, Rihanna soon discarded the jacket after working up a sweat knocking out a string of her hits for thousands of fans in Weston Park.

Kick it: The star was wearing lace up stiletto boots too

On song: The star put in an impressive performance of a string of her hits

The Rude Boy singer was doing her best to whip the crowd into a frenzy ahead of last night's headliner on that leg of the festival, Eminem.

Writing on her Twitter straight after her sensational show, she wrote: '#VFESTDay1 I LOVE YOU!!! 80'000 screaming rockstars!!! I can't wait to see Eminem!!!!'

Also on the bill yesterday at the northern leg of the do were The Script, The Saturdays, Primal Scream, Pendulum and Manic Street Preachers.

Music fan: The star said after her set that she couldn't wait to see headliner Eminem

Playing Chelmsford yesterday meanwhile were the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Plan B, Dizzee Rascal, KT Tunstall and Jessi J.

Rihanna and Eminem meanwhile travel down with the rest of yesterday's Stafforshire bill to play the Chelmsford leg of the al fresco fandango at the city's Hylands Park - where all the celebrities were hanging out yesterday.

They included Coleen Rooney, the cast of The Inbetweeners and naturally, The Only Way Is Essex, and Billie Piper.

Leather and fishnets: It was more of Rihanna's normal style than her recent fashion forays in the UK

Rihanna will then have a break from her long-running tour promoting her album Loud, before playing another festival in Brazil next month.

She's been making the most of her time in the UK so far however, and spent Friday at the official UK launch of her perfume Reb'l Fleur.

As part of the promotion, she also personally met 400 of her fans at London's House Of Fraser flagship Oxford Street branch.

Style misses: Some fans weren't keen on her outfits in London on Friday

Is this her worst outfit yet? Rihanna seems unused to wearing so many clothes as she dons odd feathered outfit in London

By Daily Mail Reporter

Bright star: The singer arrived in a vivd turquoise feathered outfit with nude Louboutin stilettos

She's been enjoying the sweet smell of success for quite a few years now - but Rihanna's outfit was a complete stinker as she launched her debut perfume in London today.

The Loud star was wearing a lurid bright feathered turquoise outfit that made her look like Sulley from Monsters Inc as she arrived at London's House Of Fraser flagship Oxford Street store.

The 23-year-old star had teamed the shapeless feathered vest with wide fit, baggy above-the-ankle trousers which seemed to make her legs look stumpy too.

The Navy: Rihanna's fans, who she calls her Navy, were out in force to met the star, with more queuing outside the store

In fact, the whole ensemble made it look as if the normally daring singer wasn't used to wearing so many - or such grown up - clothes.

Not only that, but her hair was looking unusually frumpy, now a dull chestnut brown colour with dull waves swept to one side.

However, there were some points in her favour.

Balmy day: The star was launching what is her debut fragrance in the UK

She had teamed the monstrous two-piece with towering nude Louboutin stilettos - refreshing not of the ubiquitous platform variety - and some Fifties-style cream sunglasses.

She was also sporting a Susan Caplan vintage jewellery to her perfume launch, a 1980s Chanel Gilt Metal Coin Bracelet worth £795 and 1980s Faux Pearl and Gold Tone Hoop Earringat worth £45.

Rihanna was officially launching her debut Reb'l Fleur fragrance in the UK with a meet and greet at the House Of Fraser flagship department store on London's Oxford Street - and have given 400 lucky fans the chance to meet her personally.

Hundreds of other fans crowded into the store just for a chance to glimpse the singer too - and perhaps get a whiff of her new perfume described in the publicity as 'daring, sexy and truly memorable.'

The crowds were no doubt swelled by a competition which gave 400 of her fans a chance to meet their heroine if they bought a special fragrance set earlier in the week.

The 400 fans got a special wrist band which gave them access to the lady herself. They also received a photo of her in a special photo frame.

And that wasn't all - the generous star is giving other fans a chance to see her live in the UK this weekend both in Chelmsford and Stafford at the V Festival.

Fluffy: The star certainly stood out in her brightly-coloured outfit

She wrote on her Twitter: 'UKNavy I'm givin away tix to both V fest's today at my #ReblFleur launch!!! Woop Woop #RAH'

She plays both Weston Park in Stafford and Hylands Park in Chelmsford as part of her continuing Loud tour.

She plays Stafford tomorrow on a bill that includes Eminem, The Script, Manic Street Preachers, Pendulum, Primal Scream and Calvin Harris.

The bill then transfers to Chelmsford on Sunday.

The other day of the two-day, two-site festival meanwhile features Arctic Monkeys, Plan B, Dizzee Rascal, Kaiser Chiefs, Jessie J, Bruno Mars, Example and Olly Murs.

Flying out of the shops: Rihanna glammed up for the launch as she flew into the UK looking casual

Rihanna flew out from Los Angeles earlier this week to Europe having spent a few days back in the city where she now resides following a lengthy holiday in her native Barbados.

She was in Norway yesterday, and clearly fell hard for the country, writing on her Twitter: 'NORWAY!!!! I fell in love with you foreverrrrr....'

A visit to her native Barbados certainly seems to have given Rihanna a much needed rest from her hectic schedule.

However, she had another break in her live diary after V Festival, before hitting the stage again on the 17 September in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
